Fabrication and installation of seafastning for Moray West windfarm in Moray firth region of Scotland UK
A prominent example of Nicon Industries’s expertise and collaboration with Cadeler, is the project for Moray west. The project contract was signed in August of 2023, with a schedule to deliver the seafastning structures in February of 2024. The contract consisted of fabrication and installation of substructures for both Tip and Root end blade racks on the aft of the vessel, tower grillage 2 pack, all components such as client lifting tools, Container sockets, Nacelle grillages and many other items for the newest turbines in the industry, a Total of around 700.000Kg of steel. The installation of seafastning was planned to commence straight after Wind Orca, had finished the upgrade of her crane in Rottterdam.
Already early in the project, we co-operated to begin finding options of optimizing the installation period to ensure no delays would come to the project, and arrival in Nigg for loadout. The project mobilization was split into 2 phases, where phase 1 was the installation of the heaviest towergrillage made to date. Installation of it was moved to Rotterdam, this demanded the grillage to be completed a month prior to the plan, and transported first through the port of Esbjerg and then sailed to Rotterdam for installation onboard Wind Orca, with the worlds biggest ring crane.
Completion on time
Both vessels of the Cadeler fleet, Wind Orca and Wind Osprey, managed to finish on time in Rotterdam with their upgraded cranes. This allowed them to move to Esbjerg with just a few days between them and ready for the boarding of Nicon-industries personal.
The complex outriggers, being the bladerack substructures was ready upon arrival in Esbjerg. Within the first days of arrival, we had managed to secure the substructures to the vessel. These proved to have the biggest outhanging center of gravity of all outriggers fabricated in the past, making them extremely hard to position onboard the vessel, as the tolerances are within milimeters over the 54m in between the two sub-structures. Our competent and extremely routined personal, managed to secure and weld the structures well within the required tolerances.
The project illustrates a dynamik environment, where time schedules can be inflicted by many factors outside our control. Only working together and planning for the variables can make you succeed. This is the experience we have had with the Project and management team of Cadeler during the Moray West Project.
Thank you Cadeler, for the continued trust in our abilities to ensure you will arrive on time !
